Storm Rider; 2.5 m diameter; 2008
Storm Rider is an ephemeral work made using an old bicycle converted into a 12v pedal (kinetic) generator- powering a projector. Equipped with a motion monitoring device (arduino) the speed of the footage is dictated by the participating rider according to how fast or slow they choose to pedal. The imagery consists of a montage of extreme weather patterns fused with layers of stop motion drawing projected onto a small scale weather balloon (2.5m diameter-called a cloud buster). Essentially the work represents a metaphor for human interaction with nature and is reliant on audience participation. This project was built on coffee and swear words and the very much appreciated assistance of Bill Hart and Stuart Houghton.
